These are easily my favorite wedding photos of all time.
They capture what marriage and partnership are about- no more, no less- and there are only seven of them. No expensive wedding, no dramatic tradition, just a simple act of civil union. You can see their ideals in the decision to begin their life together this way; imagine the conversations they had about it over dinner, the fun they had choosing their outfits, the agreement they must enjoy in simplicity… finances… values. You can see in the photos the depth and strength of their relationship; the joy and connection between them, their adoration of each other. You can feel their earnest love and history.
These two are gonna last, no doubt.
In a world where gay marriage is touted as eroding the ideals of marriage, where celebrities divorce after 72 days and 18 million dollars, where couples struggle to make ends meet and crack under the pressure of expectation, where the future of the US economy exists in the shadow of a world reverberation, where it’s hard to believe in a safe and comforting “some day,” Ali and Tara make me think everything’s gonna be alright.
